It is the middle of the semester now and most students have settle comfortably into their routines.
Perhaps you have your eye on a special someone and are looking for a way to impress him or her. Maybe you just want to do something different for the special someone you already have. Or perhaps you are just having some friends over to study or hang out. Why not cook dinner for them?
Even if you have never picked up a pan in your life, books are available that can teach you to prepare a meal that will make it seem like you have been cooking since childhood. Some books focus strictly on cooking for college students living in residence halls.
Once you have made it past the fear of learning to cook, you will think other things that will prevent you from being able to cook a fine meal.
One such obstacle may be the place you will have to prepare this meal. Though your kitchen facilities may not be the greatest, there are some quick and easy dishes that are also healthy.
Every meal should start out with some kind of appetizer.
Marinated Cocktail Weiners
1 small jar of current jelly
1 small jar of mustard
1 package of cocktail weiners
Mix current jelly and mustard. In mixture, heat sausages as package directs, and serve with toothpicks.
After the appetizer comes the main course.
CHICKEN AND RICE
4 chicken thighs
1 can of cream of celery soup
garlic salt
Place chicken thighs in dish. Sprinkle with garlic salt. Pour soup over chicken thighs. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour. Serve over rice.
Instead of a chicken dinner, try a beef casserole.
Tex-Mex
2 pouns of hamburger meat
1 can of corn
1 can of mushrooms
1 can black olives
1 large can of salsa
4 tortillas
2 cans of refried beans
shredded cheddar cheese
Brown meat in frying pan. Season to taste. In a large, deep casserole dish, place 2 tortillas. Spread refried beans on tortillias and place 2 tortillas over the beans. In a bowl, combine meat with all other ingredients. Spread mixture over tortillas. Sprinkle cheese over mixture. Cover wit aluminum foil and bake at 475 for 30-45 minutes.
Desserts are good for concluding the meal or for having some friends over for a late-night study session.
This four-hour recipe can be prepared while studying. Eating the pie provides the perfect study break.
