ETSU will host pianist Spencer Myer at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 in Brown Hall Auditorium. Tickets for the show are on sale for $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and free to students with ID.

Myer is an American pianist from Kentucky and studied at Oberlin College and Conservatory and furthered his musical education at Juilliard. Myer’s show will include the work of Scarlatti, Schumann, Ravel, Barber and Bolcom.

“[Myer] is the type of musician that you can hear his personality through his work,” said Esther Park, a visiting assistant professor in the department of music at ETSU. “His music is slightly different from other pianists because of this.”

The Powell piano series has brought pianists such as Park and Myer to play at ETSU in recent years.

“In the past years there was the Powell piano series; in fact, I came to ETSU through the piano series and that’s how I got to be here,” Park said. “It’s all through the generosity of the Powell family.”
