The ETSU men’s tennis team fell to Washington in a very tight match on Friday.

ETSU traveled to Seattle for the match against the No. 63 ranked Washington Huskies. The Bucs, coming off the away loss against Wake Forest, were hungry for a win but were not satisfied yet.

The score finished 4-1.

The Bucs started the match very well, taking the doubles points and preparing to go into singles with the intent to win the match. The position ETSU had put itself into by winning the doubles points had a lot of potential for the rest of the match.

Washington fought hard and shut down ETSU in almost every singles match. The score for singles stood at 5-2 in favor of the Huskies, giving them the win over the traveling Bucs.

Ismael Merino was the sole ETSU player who garnered a win in singles play. Merino managed to come back and win the second set after losing the first to Washington’s Joao Barra and then defeat him in the tiebreaker that ensued.

Another important match was ETSU’s Sebastian Yllera and UW’s Viktor Farkas. Yllerra fought hard during the first set but was narrowly defeated at 7-5. In the second set, Yllerra lost 6-3 but overall it was a hard fought match.

In three of the matches, play was halted before the second set finished due to weather in Washington, but the matches were given to the Huskies according to the current match score and who had won the first set.
