Head coach Bo Oshoniyi for the ETSU Men’s soccer team recently headed to St. Augustine, Florida, for the 2015 Adidas MLS Player Combine.

This event was for the top 55 senior players in the nation who were given the chance to showcase their talents in front of all of the Major League Soccer club representatives.

The 55 players who were chosen by a committee of National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I soccer coaches. The list included those seniors, then several upstanding underclassmen and a few other international invitees.

Oshoniyi was one of only four college level soccer coaches who were given the honor of being able to manage one of the squads who competed in the combine. Oshoniyi was assisted by James Clarkson, Director of Youth Development for the Houston Dynamo.

This combine was comprised of four squads of players all managed by coaches who were invited to the event and they played together as a team.

While also training, the players performed in several small-sided and full field matches against the other squads in order to allow players to show the level of skill they possessed to convince the representatives that they were the best player to sign for their club.

Later in the month, the MLS clubs held the 2015 Superdraft, which is very similar to a draft for the National Football League or the National Basketball Association.

It was held in Philadelphia and allowed the player that took place in the columbine an opportunity to be drafted into a professional soccer team in the United States.

For ETSU’s own men’s soccer head coach to be recruited into the viewing process for future professionals, that speaks volumes about his ability to coach and see potential in a player.

Oshoniyi has a lot of talent to work with here at ETSU and hopefully he is able to turn that potential into success.
