The ETSU men’s tennis team had its first home match of the spring season against Tennessee Tech on Feb. 27.

The Buccaneers dominated the Eagles, recording a 7-0 victory.

Double play for ETSU proved to be the tougher competition of the two, with one of the matches not finishing. ETSU had won in the other two doubles, giving them the points.

In both the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, the Bucs won dominantly.

Sebastian Yllera and Conner Huertas were the first two Bucs to win a match with a score of 6-1.

Robert Herrera and Ismael Merino completed a second win to effectively secure the doubles points.

It was in singles performances when the Bucs put on a strong show.

Every Buccaneer athlete picked up a straight-set win, meaning they shut down every opponent they faced as quickly as possible.

Rogerio Ribeiro was ultimately the player responsible for winning the match that pushed the Bucs to victory. Ribeiro defeated Eagles athlete Eduardo Mena 6-1, 6-3.

Huertas, Yllera, David Biosca, Herrera and Merino defeated their Tech opponents in singles to lock down the singles points.

No Tennessee Tech player was allowed to go up more than four games on a Buccaneer.

While the Bucs looked somewhat less energetic in their last few matches, it is obvious that ETSU’s confidence and strength is building with each successful win. ETSU’s last game had been a success against Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and ETSU looks to continue their good form into the next few matches.

In their second match of this season, the Bucs will play against Winthrop. They will play at home at 10 a.m. on March 6, continuing the spring tennis season.
