ETSU Public Safety concluded the report received Feb. 10 from a female student claiming she was robbed by an armed man between buildings J and K at Buccaneer Ridge Apartments was unfounded.
Chief Communications Officer Joe Smith said Public Safety, after investigating the events and talking to the student who reported the crime, decided the report was false.
“The case is closed, no charges are going to be filed,” Smith said. “But I think the safety notice talked about the importance of, even though this was unfounded, all the members of the campus community are encouraged to be observing their surroundings, report anything suspicious to public safety and to always take good safety precautions.”
