Sept. 12 marked the start of the East Tennessee State University women’s golf team season with the Red Raider Invitational.

Concluding the first two rounds, the Bucs were in seventh place as a team but had an individual place high.

Sophomore Loy Hee Ying (Baru, Kulaijaya, Malaysia) tied for 14th individually on Monday, shooting a 76 for the day. Loy Ying shot a 1-over 73 in her second round after she parred or better on 15 holes.

She finished her first round with a 4-over 76 after carding a pair of birdies in her first seven holes.

Senior Linda Dobele (Ogre, Latvia) and freshman Ankita Kedlaya (Bangalore, India) each shot 3-over 75 in their first two rounds.

Dobele sunk seven birdies in the 36 holes, including five in her first round.

As a freshman, Kedlaya shot five birdies and parred 21 holes which was good, being her first college golf tournament.

To end the first day, the Bucs were eight strokes away from being in the top five.

New Mexico State University led the day by three strokes over No. 36 ranked Texas Tech, who had two players finishing the day as first and second.

The pair Lauren Mason (Queensland, Australia) and Gabby Barker (Caldwell, Idaho) each shot a combined 2-under. No. 18 ranked Oregon was seven strokes out of first.

Most noticeably New Mexico State had four players in the top 12 on the first day led by their pair Kennedie Montoya and Kristen Cline, who finished fifth and sixth on day one of the Red Raider Invitational.

On day two of the Red Raider Invitational, sophomore Loy Hee Ying finished top 10 individually.

Lee Ying shot four birdies in her first eight holes to start her final round.

In the end, New Mexico State won the Red Raider Invitational. Four out of five players for New Mexico State finished in the top 10.

They were led by their pair, Camille Orito (Fresno, Ca.) and Kennedie Montoya (Thatcher, Ariz) once again who finished fifth and sixth. Texas Tech’s, Gabby Barker, finished first in the tournament.

The Bucs will be heading toGreenville, S.C. to compete in the 2016 Lady Paladin Invitational starting on Sept 23.
