On Oct. 21, the ETSU women’s soccer team faced Wofford while the men’s team faced off against Furman.

The women’s team came into the match with a record of 9-5-2 and 4-2-1 in conference play.

The Bucs scored first when Molly Collinson (Cramlington, England) split two defenders to give the Bucs an early 1-0 lead, assisted by Isabel Hodgson. Eleonora Goldoni (Ferrara, Italy) scored off a free kick up the middle to give the Bucs a 2-0 lead in the first half.

At the 34 minute mark, Eleonora Goldoni scored her second goal of the night to give the Bucs a 3-0 lead going into the half. Goldoni now has 12 goals on the season and is ranked 12th in the country. The Bucs offense was in high gear for the night, taking 22 shots with 11 being at the goal.

“We knew we had to press the opposition up the field to be able to force stop which led us to score,” said Head Coach Adam Sayers.

Elena Pisani (Milano, Italy) scored a goal assisted by Rachel Harbin (Arlington, Tenn.) to give the Bucs a 4-0 lead. The Bucs defense was sensational, not allowing Wofford to get many chances to score.

“They like to attack with few players back, we’re able to stop their counter attack,” Sayers said. “The players did a good job of stopping their runs down the field.”

For the night Wofford took six shots with only three being on goal. The Buccaneers won, improving their record to 10-5-2 and  5-2-1 in SoCon play. With the win, the Bucs improve to 7-0 at home.

“We played really well in the areas that we addresses before the match,” Sayer said. “I’m happy how we played. Our players take pride in playing at home with the energy of our fans and atmosphere.”

For the ETSU men’s team, it was a tough physical game. Neither defense allowed either team to get any easy goals. On the 16 shots, the Bucs took only four on goal. Though they had opportunities to score, ETSU just couldn’t execute when they needed to. The Bucs were able to limit Furman’s shot attempts, of the eight attempts only four were on goal.

The final score was 0-0 resulting in the second tie of the season for the Bucs.. The Bucs remain undefeated at home and their record moved to 9-4-2 and 5-1-2 in SoCon play. The Bucs are now 6-0 at home.
