Chalwa at the Willow Tree

On Friday, Nov. 4, from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., Chalwa, a high-country reggae band out of Asheville, will perform live in concert at The Willow Tree Coffeehouse and Music Room in downtown Johnson City. Chalwa consists of several local musicians from diverse local bands such as the Asheville Horns, Hope Massive, Josh Phillips Folk Festival, Biodesiel and the Everydays. Band members include Dennis Berndt on bass/vocals, Evan Ackerman on guitar, Nik Hope on drums, Skye McCleod on drums, Nethali on percussion and T-Grass on guitar/vocals. Admission price is $10.

Chamber Music Recital

A chamber music recital featuring ETSU faculty members and guest artists will be performed on Sunday, Nov. 6, from 3-5 p.m. at Brown Hall, room 112. Sponsored by the ETSU Department of Music, the recital will showcase music from the Czech composer Antonín Dvořák. Several musicians will take part in the show, including ETSU faculty members Esther Park on piano and David Kováč on viola, along with visiting musicians Miroslav Hristov from the University of Tennessee on violin, Caroline Chin from Bowling Green State University on violin and Nathanael Jasinski from Eastern Kentucky University on cello.

Homecoming Art and Craft sale

Looking for that perfect Christmas gift? Look no further. Slocumb Galleries will host the 2016 “Homecoming Art and Craft Sale” at Ball Hall from Monday, Nov. 7 to Saturday, Nov. 12. The Slocumb Galleries and ETSU Department of Art & Design with the Slocumb Galleries Student Society and ETSU Homecoming Committee present this event annually as part of ETSU’s homecoming celebration. Work by students, art organizations, faculty members and local and regional artists will all be on sale. Event sponsors urge art connoisseurs to “buy local and support your art communities!” The sale will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and until 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Montagna Camerata Faculty Recital

Montagna Camerata is the ETSU Department of Music’s newest faculty ensemble, featuring Heather Killmeyer on oboe, Gary Flair on clarinet, David Kovac on viola and Esther Park on piano. Montagna Camerata will perform in concert from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7, at Brown Hall, room 112. Seeking to include a diverse selection of chamber music, the ensemble will play works by Bach, Mozart, Piazzolla and Thompson. General admission is $15, seniors pay $10 and students with ID are free.

Black Affairs Comedy Show

Love to laugh? If so, then ETSU is the place to be during the upcoming Homecoming Weekend. Black Affairs Association and SGA will host a comedy show on Friday night, Nov. 11, in the D.P. Culp Center Auditorium. The doors will open at 7 p.m. The show will begin at 8 p.m. and last until 10 p.m. General admission is $5, and students with an ETSU ID get in free.
