“Othello”

The Department of Theatre and Dance at ETSU presents their second and final stage production of the semester with William Shakespeare’s 1604 work “The Tragedy of Othello.” The play features a timeless story of conspiracy, accusations, betrayal and murder. Shows will take place in the Bud Frank Theatre Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 17-19, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students, faculty or staff with ID and $10 for general admission.

BFA exhibits at Slocumb Galleries

Department of Art & Design and Slocumb Galleries present two Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) exhibitions by ETSU student artists Todd Simmons—who will showcase his work in “The Manifestation of Manipulation”—and Hannah Justis—whose exhibit is titled “Obsessive Contemporary Diversion.” Both exhibits will be on display at Slocumb Galleries from Nov. 14-22, with a joint reception being held from 5-7 p.m. on Nov. 17.

Wind Ensemble concert

“…and we danced…” is what the ETSU Wind Ensemble has named their large ensemble concert coming up. The performance will take place on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the D.P. Culp University Center Auditorium. Music selections being performed will include Peter Mennin’s “Canzona,” “Incantation and Dance” by John Barnes Chance, Robert Russell Bennett’s “Suite of Old American Dances,” “Dance Rhythms” by Wallingford Riegger and many other great pieces. Admission is free, and students as well as the public are welcome to attend.

African Night

Co-sponsored by Shades of Africa and the Office of Multicultural Affairs, African Night offers an experience like none other. The event invites students to “come celebrate and experience the rich culture of Africa without having to leave Johnson City.” Take this chance to learn about and celebrate African culture by immersing yourself in music, acting, dancing and a pageant. African Night will take place at ETSU in the D.P. Culp University Center Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18.

Chair Massages

Buctainment, the campus organization that brought you Fun Movie Fridays, outdoor concerts, Zorb ball soccer and the comedy of Dave Coulier, will soon offer a subtler type of entertainment on campus. More so, it will offer relaxation. Buctainment will host free chair massages for students in the D.P. Culp Center Atrium on Tuesday, Nov. 29, and Wednesday, Nov. 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music Studies concert

ETSU’s Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music Studies will host their end of the semester concert at the Down Home in downtown Johnson City on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. The musical event will feature a variety of bluegrass, old time, country, and Celtic music performing groups. Tickets for the concerts are $10 and can be purchased at the Down Home each evening at the door.
