The ETSU chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha had their charter suspended following a vote by the international fraternity’s board of directors, according to an email sent out on Monday by Brent Phillips, the chief marketing officer of the fraternity.

The email said that the chapter’s charter was pulled by Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity because they had participated in activities that were not consistent with the fraternity’s standards and the university’s policies.

“The Fraternity made this decision with the support of East Tennessee State University administrators,” the email said. “The International Fraternity has already initiated discussions with alumni and university partners to develop a plan for the Chapter’s return at a later date.”

As long as the suspension is in place the chapter can not operate in the name of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity or use the fraternity’s symbols.

The fraternity was initially placed on probation in September 2015 after a report was made indicating that they had violated policies regarding registered parties and were placed on interim suspension by the university in September 2016 after a report was made indicating that the organization had violated the terms of their probation.

Following the chapter’s placement on interim suspension by the university, additional allegations surfaced that members of the chapter had participated in unregistered events with alcohol despite an order from the university directing them to hold no parties, according to a timeline provided by the university.
