The women’s golf team traveled to Macon, Georgia, to compete in the Brickyard Collegiate on Monday and Tuesday.

Last week when the Bucs went to the Web.com Intercollegiate, they secured first place for the first time in three seasons.

Starting out competition on Monday at the Brickyard Collegiate, the Bucs showed signs of promise once again.

Linda Dobele (Ogre, Latvia) led the Bucs on day one, shooting 1-under 71. Teammate Loy Hee Ying (Baru, Kulaijaya, Malaysia) was next in line, shooting 1-over 73 and tying Dobele in the individual standings for second place.

After day one, there were five other athletes also holding second place.

Southern Conference rival Furman University was also at the Collegiate and is ranked No. 9 nationally.

Furman had the top spot after day one and would continue to hold that place. They finished the tournament in first place above two other ranked teams – Texas A&M and Augusta University.

Another representative of the SoCon, Mercer University, finished tied for fourth above the Bucs.

ETSU ended up in sixth place overall, dropping one spot after their fifth place finish on day one, after the final day of play.

However, the Bucs finished two spots above No. 56 Maryland University.

Ankita Kedlaya (Bangalore, India) is a freshman on the team this year, and was sitting at 16th place after day one.

On Tuesday, she fell down to 29th place, but it was her fourth top-30 finish so far this season.

Dobele also went down in the rankings after shooting a 6-over 78, which landed her the 17th place spot with two other golfers.

Another accomplishment for the Bucs also came during the final rounds on Tuesday when Loy pulled away from tying in second to win the overall individual competition at the Collegiate.

As a sophomore, this is Loy’s second individual win. She shot a 4-under 68, breaking both the tournament record and course record.

With the top-10 finish at the Brickyard Collegiate, the Bucs have a few weeks before gearing up for the Southern Conference tournament on April 23-25.

The tournament will be held in Lexington, South Carolina.
