The men’s soccer team played host to the University of Kentucky on Tuesday evening in front of a packed Summers-Taylor Stadium.

The Bucs were coming off a win against Dayton and looking for a good contest against the formerly ranked Wildcats.

The game was a constant battle for possession, and in the 18th minute the Bucs scored the first goal of the game. Sophomore Joe Pickering (East Sussex, England) put head to ball off a corner kick to secure the goal.

In the second half, tension struck on the field, and the Wildcats took a yellow card after one of their players yelled at the ref for a call against their team.

The Wildcats countered later in the game with an equalizer, tying the game with a 1-1 score, but neither team could put another goal in the net before the end of regulation.

Going into double overtime, ETSU was unable to hold off Kentucky’s Stefan Stojkovic who scored the goal in regulation and the game-winner in overtime, though the last point is up to speculation by the crowd, when everyone went silent for a moment as we waited for the ref’s no-score call. The ref called the game at 2-1.

Despite the loss, junior Jonny Sutherland (Chester, U.K.) still had seven saves on the evening, starting and finishing the game in the goal, and Chase Clack (Memphis, Tennessee) recorded 4,000 career minutes during this game of his senior season.

The team has a week off before they are back in Summers-Taylor on Sep. 5 against Lipscomb University.
