Sept. 21 – Department of Appalachian Studies Square Dance

Head to the Down Home in downtown Johnson City on Thursday for a night of square dancing. Hosted by ETSU’s Department of Appalachian Studies, the event lasts from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Entry is free.


Sept. 21 – “Absurdity of Truth:” Public Lecture and Reception by John Federov

Slocumb Galleries opens a new multimedia exhibit by contemporary artist John Federov during this year’s Native American Festival. Federov will give a lecture beginning at 5 p.m. with a reception following that lasts until 7 p.m. The exhibit features works from the past five years that explore Federov’s identity and worldview, which he says have been influenced but not limited by his Navajo heritage. Attendance is free. The event and guest speaker will be held in Slocumb Galleries.


Sept. 21-22 – Native American Festival

This Thursday and Friday, ETSU’s amphitheater will play host to dancers, storytellers, artists and musicians joining together to celebrate Native American heritage. These artisans and performers will demonstrate skills such as stone carving and traditional dances. The two-day event will last throughout the day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday.


Sept. 22 – Fun Friday: “Get Out”

On Friday at 7 p.m., Buctainment hosts a screening of one of this year’s runway hits, “Get Out.” A horror/suspense movie directed by Jordan Peele garnered praise from audiences and critics alike. It will screen in the D.P. Culp University Center auditorium.

Sept. 23 – Fall Festival


Prior to the ETSU vs. Mercer game, Buctainment hosts a Fall Festival on the Lucille Clement lawn from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Plenty of family friendly activities will be featured, including a petting zoo and pumpkin painting. The event is free.


Sept. 23 – ETSU vs. Mercer

For this Family Weekend head to the William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium for ETSU’s football game against Mercer University. Kick-off is at 3:30 p.m. Tickets range $20-30, and discounts are available for members of the Parents’ Association. Student tickets are free and available at the student information desk on the second floor of the Culp.
