The Bucs went into their matchup against Furman looking to keep up their winning streak. Furman’s offense was too much for the Bucs’ defense. The Bucs ultimately lost 56-35 in what was a shootout in the fourth quarter.


In the first quarter, Furman got on the board first on a 22-yard rushing touchdown to lead 7-0. The Bucs responded with a score of their own when Austin Herink (Cleveland, Tennessee) hit Vincent Lowe (Chesapeake, Virginia) with 53-yard touchdown pass to tie the game 7-7.


Furman reclaimed the lead on a 32-yard touchdown pass to lead 14-7 to win the first quarter.


The Bucs got on the board first in the second quarter when Blake Rodgers (Kingsport, Tennessee) scored on a three-yard rushing touchdown to tie the game 14-14.


JJ Jerman (Seymour, Tennessee) gave the Bucs their first lead, knocking in a 31-yard field goal to give the Bucs a 17-14 lead. The Furman offense responded, scoring a 30-yard touchdown pass with four minutes remaining in the second quarter, giving them a 21-17 lead.


With 30 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Furman scored on a three-yard touchdown run to lead 28-17. At the half, the Bucs trailed 28-17.


The Furman offense kept up their attack, scoring on a 32-yard touchdown run to lead 35-17. The Bucs’ defense really struggled with Furman’s running game and their passing ability kept the Bucs’ defense honest.


Furman’s offense did not stop there, as they scored on a 64-yard touchdown pass to lead 42-17 going into the fourth quarter.


To start the fourth quarter, the Bucs’ offense got back on the board when Herink hit Lowe on a 31-yard touchdown pass to bring their deficit to 42-24. Jerman brought the Bucs deficit down to 42-27 after making a 41-yard field goal.


Furman responded with a 47-yard kick return to lead 49-27.


With under eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Herink hit Hunter Wike (Canton, North Carolina) for a 78-yard touchdown pass. The Bucs converted on a two-point conversion to bring their deficit to 49-35.


With two minutes remaining Furman scored on a five-yard touchdown run to close out the game, defeating the Bucs 56-35.
