Both the men’s and women’s soccer teams took on the Wofford College here in home Summers-Taylor Stadium last week.

The women’s team competed against the Terriers in the first round of the SoCon Tournament and came out on top 5-0.

All five goals came from different players. The first to secure a goal was Izzy Hodgson (Adelaide, Australia) in the first half off an assist from teammate Rachel Harbin (Arlington, Tennessee). It was the only goal of the first half, and the final four goals came within eight minutes of each other early in the second half.

Emily McKerlie (Dumfries, Scotland) sent in an assist to Elena Pisani (Milano, Italy) and shortly after sent in a goal of her own. For the other two goal-scorers, Fiona Dodge (Pontypool, Wales) and Pauline Vienne (Lausanne, Switzerland), it was their first goals of the season.

This was the first time the two teams had met in the SoCon Tournament and the last game for Wofford as the Bucs move on to the quarterfinal round against Furman.

On the men’s side against Wofford, the game determined the regular season champions, and the Bucs didn’t let go of the hope they had since the start of the season.

The Bucs topped the Terriers, much like the women, 4-1.

Within the first three minutes, freshman Danny Barlow (Newcastle, England) sent in his fifth goal of the season. After that, the goals just kept coming.

Two seniors found the net on their senior night, Jeffrey George (Safety Harbor, Florida) and Richmond Taylor (Hendersonville, Tennessee).

With this win, the Bucs secured the 2017 SoCon regular season championship and the top spot in the tournament starting within the next two weeks.
