BucTV is a student-driven newscast for the ETSU community — a hidden gem nestled in the Media and Communication department. The organization is dedicated to bringing quality, accurate stories to ETSU students every week.

Brandon Bailey, the news manager for BucTV, keeps the organization running. Every week, he sends out reporters and videographers with stories to cover for the newscast. He helps them get the facts and cultivate their stories. He edits their writing. Then, every Friday at 11:30 a.m., the broadcast goes live on Facebook, YouTube and BucTV.

This year, BucTV’s slogan is “It’s a New Story Here.”

Each week, the broadcast covers several topics. Viewers can expect to see stories covering campus events, national news, entertainment and sports. This semester is a new start for the organization. Bailey hopes the studio will be back and better than ever.

“This year is special for BucTV,” said Bailey. “A brand new news set was installed over the summer, and we are working with rebranding our show by focusing on our new slogan. With the changes come new faces. We have five new anchors joining us this semester. We are hoping this year will be one for the books.”

Aside from covering the news, Bailey is passionate about making the network a learning opportunity for the students involved.

“BucTV is a learning outlet above all else,” said Bailey. “The field is highly competitive, and experience is a necessity to get started.”

His mission is to equip students with the skills needed to work in local news stations after college. Students that work on the technical side of BucTV get to work with graphic design, videography and sound boards. The anchors get broadcast experience that is vital to their future careers. The organization works with WYCB and WJHL to better prepare the students for work in a news station. Several of BucTV’s alumni have moved on to work at these stations.
