The women’s tennis team wrapped up their regular season on Saturday in Greenville, South Carolina, with a match against Southern Conference rival Furman.

The Bucs fell to the ranked Paladins 6-1 and concluded the season with a 11-10 overall record and a 6-1 record in the conference, sitting at number two behind the Paladins with a 7-0 record.

The Paladins began in doubles action with momentum on their side, clinching double points in all three matches. Furman’s Carol Eliz Kerman and Georgia Walker began the first match defeating the Bucs’ Yuneun Freshman Elizarrarras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) and junior Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basuri, Spain) in a 6-1 effort.

The second match saw Katty Weymouth and Madison Dillon defeat freshman Raquel Amaro (Caracas, Venezuela) and red shirt junior Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) with a close one at 6-4. Furman closed out the doubles competition when freshman Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and  sophomore Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) fell to Furman’s ranked Katrina Kozarov and Julia Adams 6-4.

Singles play started out with Amaro winning over Dillon with a 6-1, 6-0
victory. Larrinaga fell to Adams 7-5, 6-2, while Bakodirova lost a close
one to Kozarov.

Morales secured her first set with a 6-1 win, but Weymouth came back and won the last two matches with a 6-3 score. The last two matches saw Elizarraras and Chi Ma put in a strong effort, but he Paladins were able to secure the win with 7-6, 7-6 and 6-2, 6-2 victories.

The Bucs finished their record at home with six wins and one loss while away they had six wins and nine losses.

With the regular season in the books, the women’s tennis team looks to the SoCon tournament. The tournament will be held in Macon, Georgia, starting on April 18 and continuing to April 20. The Bucs will take on Western Carolina first.
