Students longing for a break after hours of non-stop studying are in luck. There is an array of organizations located right here on campus that work diligently to satisfy the social interests of virtually every member of the student body. One may be shocked to learn that such activities may be taking place in the comfort of one’s own residence hall.
Robert Minton, area coordinator for the department of housing and residence life, discussed options for students living on campus. “The housing staff works very hard to design programs to make sure that each resident has the opportunity to further their growth outside the classroom. By getting to know one another the residents establish connections with their neighbors and as a result expand their campus horizons,” Minton said.
One particular exercise practiced regularly by the DHRL is what is known campus wide as TNAF: Thursday Night Activities for Fun. This event is scheduled to take place every Thursday night at 9 p.m.
Conveniently located in each individual residence hall TNAF allows students the means to have a good time in the safety of their own hall.
Past themes includes: speed dating, volleyball, Texas Hold’em tournaments and gingerbread house decorating. TNAF’s RAs are constantly looking for new ideas to draw in a crowd. Another advantage is guests of residents are invited and encouraged to join the fun.
“It’s amazing to be included in such campus interaction and the food is another bonus. I really enjoyed the integration that often took place,” said Lia Lerner, former campus resident.
TNAF aims at giving students a sense of belonging, and showing that college can be more than class and study.
Through the activities planned students are allowed the opportunity to meet people. TNAF advocates relationships that will endure past the brief period spent here at ETSU.
For more information about the TNAF which takes place in all campus residence halls, students are encouraged to visit the RA on their floor.
