Naaman Wayne Buckles of Elizabethton has been charged with driving under the influence in connection with a car crash that destroyed 50 feet of fencing and landscaping at Shelbridge, the home of President Stanton.
Buckles, 29, 135 Melody Lane, was arrested early Friday morning and has been released on an $11,500 bond.
According to a Johnson City Police Department news release, this was Buckles’ fourth DUI offense. He was also charged with driving on a revoked license, his second offense.
Buckles was driving his 1991 Chevrolet Astro van on North Roan Street at a high rate of speed when he ran off the right side of the road and into a telephone pole, tearing down a portion of the chain-link fence that surrounds Stanton’s home, located at 101 E. Eleventh Ave, off North Roan Street.
The vehicle eventually came to rest beside the guest house located on the property.
ETSU’s Physical Plant was advised of the damage to the fence so that repairs could be made, police said.
Buckles was not injured in the accident. He is scheduled to appear in Municipal Court on Wednesday at 8 a.m.
