ETSU is implementing new fee payment requirements for the spring 2001 semester.
There will be three major changes dealing with payment deadlines.
First, the December payment date for students who registered early will no longer be offered.
All students will now be required to pay or confirm registration by 7 p.m. on Jan. 5.
The third change is a $100 late fee for students that are either registering late or re-registering due to cancellation of their schedules after Jan. 5.
Another change that will occur for the new semester is that ETSU now requires all recipients of full scholarships to confirm their attendance before a set deadline.
In previous years the college held student’s places and only cancelled them in December if they did not register.
These changes will do away with current payment practices, when students paid fees by check at the cashier’s window.
Dr. David Collins, associate vice president for business and finance, described the changes as `results of new technology’ in a recent press release.
New registration processes like the Internet and telephone registration have made it possible for students to register and pay electronically virtually anytime.
The old process allowed for students to register late to defer payment.
“This process was not fair and equitable to all enrolled students and often caused confusion because of differing payment dates depending on the registration and financial aid status,” Collins said.
It is hoped that the new process will encourage timely registration and improve the entire process.
Students can pay or confirm their registration through Goldlink by calling 439-7700; through ETSU online at www. etsu.edu. and clicking on the Goldlink button that appears.
Students can also call 439-2112 or go in person to the cashiers office in Burgin Dossett Hall, the administration building. It can also be done by mail at ETSU, Box 70719, Johnson City, TN, 37614.
