As the holidays arrive, don’t let the “spirits” run wild.
Over the holiday many people will be celebrating. Some celebrate with family and friends, but others celebrate with a drink, which if not careful could be fatal or harmful to yourself or others.
More than 30,000 Tennesseans are convicted of a DUI each year. That is one conviction every 18 minutes.
Many ways exist to cut down the amount of DUIs around us during the holiday.
When hosting a party, be a good host by providing plenty of non-alcoholic beverages and not pressuring guests to drink.
Other recommendations are to serve food to slow the rate of absorption of alcohol, and to stop the flow of alcohol at least one hour before the party is over.
If a guest has to much to drink call a cab or get them a ride with a designated driver.
“Everyone needs to take their time and realize exactly how much they can drink before they are completely out of it,” said Officer Mike Orr, ETSU department of public safety.
Remember why the holidays are important, and just ask one question before each drink – does drinking sound good tonight?
The answer might be surprising.
