Even if I took this entire page just to list the names of people to whom I am indebted for their help, to me and this paper, I would leave someone off. So I won’t even begin the task.
However, I will issue a general thank you to all of you. Everyone has some luck in their lives, and my luck was having people like you to guide, teach and support me.
I do, however, want to recognize one group of people in particular – the staff of the the East Tennessean.
Never have I seen such a fusing of enthusiasm and talent. The product you put out twice a week is proof of this. I have truly been blessed to have this group around me.
The college newspaper business is a rollercoaster ride. It’s a fast, exhilarating, gut-wrenching, scary and distressing experience all in a very short time.
Some people swear off rollercoasters after their first ride. For others, it becomes the thrill of a lifetime.
I fall in the latter category, and that’s why I’m to ride again as editor next semester.
I wish every member of this staff could come back in the spring, but, again, just like rollercoasters, some people get off when everything grinds to a halt.
I will miss my departing friends, with the knowledge that each of you will go far, given the drive and ability you’ve exhibited this semester.
Please come back and visit. As long as I’m around here, you’ll always be welcome.
Still, I am empassioned as I prepare and wait for the gears to begin moving in January. Others will get on this ride for the first time and feel the excitement.
I can’t wait to feel it alongside you.
