On Jan. 8, students will begin to experience the aroma of burgers rising up from the trees.
The campus treehouse snackbar, that has been stuck in the planning stages for over a year, will be opening soon to catch students that are mostly on the western end of campus.
The snackbar will be nestled under an oak tree. There will also be a deck to the new snack bar where students can gather and socialize while they eat.
The concrete has already been stripped up to provide needed nutrients for the tree and to harbor a relaxing atmosphere for students to gather between classes.
It is hoped the snackbar will attract students who commute to campus and give them a place to gather on campus as well as for students who live in the residence halls.
The snack bar will feature a Burger King, a Grab and Go, and an Aramark drink station.
The Burger King section will have burgers, fries and the traditional Whopper.
Aramark will act as franchise. No chicken sandwiches will be available at the new Burger King so as not to compete with Chick-Fil-A inside the Culp Center.
The Grab and Go section of the treehouse will feature cold sandwiches, salads and pastries among other various quick snack items.
“We think that there will be a 20 percent loss in the Culp Center and an 80 percent gain from the Tree House Snack bar,” said Tony Warner, assistant vice president of the university center.
Warner hopes that the new addition will attract more commuters, as well as students.
Students will be able to use their meal plans, dining dollars and Buc debit card at the new Treehouse Snackbar.
Hours will be from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend hours will be worked out after the opening.
“I’m excited to finally have the building nearing completion and it will be open in January for the students.
“It has taken us much longer than expected to get to this point, but I am glad that we are finally here,” Warner said.
