On a daily basis, students wake up at horrendous hours and make the trek across campus to go to class, get the grade and receive a degree.
All of this is in preparation for the big bad world of resumes, job hunts, and interviews. Simply thinking about all of the steps and information one would have to know to properly enter the world of work is enough to boggle the mind.
ETSU will have an upcoming workshop series that will address specific information and skills college students need to know about when they go on a job interview.
Sponsored by the ETSU Office of Career Placement and Internship Services, the Job Futuring Series will continue until the end of the spring semester.
The first workshop in the series is titled “Interviewing Workshop and Internet Inform-ation Guide.”
Calvin Purvis, assistant director of Career Placement and Internship Services, said students, as well as alumni, are welcome to attend the upcoming event.
“We will address in detail how to handle the interview situation and better prepare students for future interview situations,” Purvis said.
During the workshop, attendants will learn more about the basic interview, what to expect from a job interview, appropriate responses to questions, and what sort of body language to convey before a potential employer, he said.
Handouts containing key information will also be given out.
Purvis said the workshop is not merely for juniors and graduating seniors, but for anyone interested in employment.
“This workshop will be beneficial to you if you are going into co-op programs or if you are just looking for summer or post-degree employment,” he said.
Overall, he added, the workshop would be beneficial for students to attend. “After all, preparation is the key to success.”
The “Interviewing Workshop and Internet Information Guide” will be held in the Culp Center, Meeting Room 6, next Thursday from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
