ETSU students now have a huge incentive to register for classes and get their schedule confirmed on time with the new implementation of higher late fees.
“We made some changes as far as how students can confirm their registration,” said Steve Campbell, ETSU comptroller.
After registering for this spring semester, students were asked on Goldlink to “confirm” their registration before Jan 5.
If the student forgot to do so and came to class on Jan 8, they discovered that their schedule had been purged from the system. A fee of $100 was due if this occurred.
“There had been a previous problem . . . this was done in an effort to get fees paid on time,” Campbell said.
This modification meant great changes for many students, especially those who expected to graduate in May and needed to get into specific classes. Some areas of study require classes that cannot be cut into after the initial registration.
“We more or less wanted to treat everyone the same – not punish one group over another,” Campbell said.
The comptroller’s office as well as others have felt the sting of student complaints, but agree with the change, as it seems beneficial.
“There had been some difficulty…we probably expected that until people get acquainted with the program,” Campbell said. “With enough publicity, people will know what to do.”
“This semester’s outcome so far has proved that we had more fees paid at this time now than before,” Campbell said.
