The Culp Center has been undergoing indoor beautification this semester. Improvements include fresh paint and new carpet for the first floor and the ramp, which spirals up the three massive stories of the Culp Center.
However, the color of the new carpet is notably different in sections of the carpet.
When ETSU purchased the carpet, they bought two kinds of rolls, a 12-foot roll, used to cover the large areas of floor space, and a six-foot roll carpet, used for the walkways.
The carpet had been laid before anyone noticed that it had multiple seams and had been hacked into strips.
Upon closer inspection, a defect was discovered in the 12-foot roll. The color’s intensity varied.
For example there is a two-foot stripe where a light shade is followed by a four-foot strip of the correct, darker color.
The manufacturer was called in and a representative was sent to the university to check out the carpet.
After a detailed look at the carpet the manufacturer admitted that it was indeed a defect in the product, and they have agreed to replace the carpet, although it may be February before the new carpet arrives.
This problem aside, Tony Warner, assistant vice president for the University Center and I.D. Services, was pleased with the final result.
“We are excited about the new carpet. We have received many positive comments about it,” Warner said.
“We are sorry that one section (of the carpet) had some manufacturing flaws. We are grateful that the manufacturer is taking responsibility for the problem and is going to make sure we have the best possible carpet.
