Gran Torino will be playing at The Casbah tonight at 10 p.m. as part of their tour to promote their song “Are You Livin'”, the second single from their album Two.
The second single debuts on the heels of the group’s popular single “Moments With You.”
“Are You Livin'” is not enjoying the success that the first single received. Gran Torino lead singer Chris Ford attributed this to the nature of the song and the amount of competition in the music market.
“In this day and age it is really hard to do anything grass roots,” he said.
The band hopes the tour will raise awareness of the single and garner more airplay on radio stations.
This tour is a bit different for the band than the other tours they have done.
“Right now we are just essentially going out and playing two or three dates a week close to home,” Ford said. “The most important thing is to get home and write.”
The group is currently in the beginning stages of putting together their third album. As part of the preparation process, the band is trying to “tour less and write more,” Ford said.
The songwriting process began in late 2000.
“About four months ago, we really started working to put a new batch of songs together,” Ford said.
The first demos for the album should go into production sometime in this month.
This album will be a different experience for the band, Ford said.
“I think everything we do about the making of the next album will be different,” he said.
Ford described the group’s first album as “young” and “raw.” He said the second album was almost overproduced with all of the electronic sounds the group used.
He said the new album will “probably be a lot more raw,” in comparison to Two.
