Construction on the Treehouse Snack Bar is now complete. Passing two final inspections and obtaining an occupancy permit are next in line for the Snack Bar. Aramark director Don Cowles expects to be open for business in approximately two weeks.
The Snack Bar will feature Burger King and will offer students a limited menu. In addition, there will be a breakfast menu, specialty drinks, a bakery case and a Grab `N Go menu.
Some of the food items to be offered include specialty desserts like cheesecake and German chocolate cake, deli subs that will be made-to-order, juices, yogurt, and pre-packaged salads.
The Burger King’s limited menu will offer three different Whoppers, the Big Fish sandwich, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, medium fries, onion rings, mozzarella sticks and jalapeno poppers. The pricing plan is expected to be similar to other Burger King’s.
A 900 square foot deck will be built around an oak tree located to the left of the Snack Bar. It will offer 16 or 18 picnic tables with handicap access to the deck and some of the tables.
The hours of operation for the Snack Bar will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. The weekend hours will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Approximately 12 employees will be hired. The Aramark office, located in the Culp Center, is still accepting applications.
“Our intent is to provide a service to commuter and residential students and will establish one more place for the meal plan card to be used,” Cowles said. He also has plans to open a Freshens Yogurt health food and juice bar inside the Center for Physical Activities when it is completed.
