By the time spring break gets here most students are ready to get away. Everyone’s ready for a week of fun, friends and relaxation.
However sometimes things get started off on the wrong foot.
Have you ever been stuck in an airport for hours and made it to your destination only to have your accommodations reveal your worst nightmare? If so then here are some tips to make sure this year’s getaway is a sure-fire success.
First, do some research.
Always check to see if the travel agent you are dealing with is a Certified Travel Counselor or Certified Travel Associate. These titles indicate that whomever you’re dealing with is highly professional and has met the requirements of the exam to obtain this certification.
This also means the individual will continue to meet these requirements in order to stay up to date with the latest travel trends.
The second tip is to always pay by credit card.
This helps to protect you from fraud. Next, if you’re considering a charter flight, make sure you check the contract you sign to see if the company will reimburse you for any extra expenses caused by a flight delay.
Delays often occur on charter flights because it is legal for companies to cancel up to 10 days before the trip or to change schedules at the last minute.
One of the best options for a spring break getaway is an all-inclusive vacation. These include airfare, meals and many activities while on vacation. Another advantage is these packages can be booked through one operator.
Finally, know your rights.
Skip Oldham of Oldham Travel Agency says the best advice is ” book your trip very early.” For instance if you are planning a trip in March, to get the best rates you should book your trip as early as September.
Possibly one of the best options for college students is a cruise, Oldham said. These are normally all-inclusive including both meals and airfare. However, anyone under age 21, must be accompanied by someone 25 or older.
“Beware of bait and switch,” was another tip Oldham offered.
This occurs when a travel agency lures you in with a great deal and then at the last minute changes some of your plans or accommodations. You do have the right to cancel a charter flight if the itinerary is changed at the last minute and you are not happy with the change, Oldham reminded.
If all of these steps are taken, Oldham said, you will reduce your chance of having your spring break turn into a disaster.
