Though the Lady Cougars lost ten of their last twelve and haven’t won a game in regulation since beating the Lady Bucs, 78-61 on Jan. 13, Melissa Slone does have a couple of positives on which to build. They nearly upended No. 3 seed UNC-G in the season’s final game, falling 53-52, and their last win came Feb. 5 over regular-season champ Chattanooga, 87-86 in overtime.
That final victory was, however, uncharacteristic, since leading scorer Wilma Simpson (12.8 ppg) are the next-to-worst shooting and scoring team in the league.
Though they will be the higher seed in their opening-round game against App. St., the last-place Lady Mountaineers swept the Lady Cougars in the regular season.
