Since one of the things we try to teach here at ETSU is rational discussion, I would like to point out, without taking sides, two logical errors in “Letters to the Editor,” Monday, March 11, 2001.
One writer says, “I don’t understand why liberals like Morris think that abortion and homosexuality should be promoted …”
To promote something is to recommend or encourage it. Liberals tend to oppose punishing or jailing people for abortion or homosexuality, but I don’t know anyone who “promotes” either, in the sense of encouraging people not already committed to try them.
