Area fans of Gran Torino will receive a special treat tonight at The Casbah as they will be among the first to hear some of the new songs the band has been writing for inclusion in their new album.
As of late, the Knoxville-based band has been playing more close to home tour dates and spending a lot of time in the studio working on new songs, according to front man Chris Ford.
“We’re pretty much in the middle of pre-production on the new record,” he said.
So far, the group has 12 new songs written and will playing some of those songs tonight.
“The more we play the songs, the better grip we have on them,” Ford said.
One of the new songs the band is planning on doing during the show is a tune called “Street Light.”
“One new song we’re really excited about is `Street Light,'” Ford said. “It’s about when you get stuck in life you’re not always going to stay there, things will get better.”
The sounds of the group’s third album will be different than those of the band’s sophomore effort.
“Our last record was really poppy and clean,” Ford said, adding that the new album has more of a mixture of R&B and rock.
“It’s just kind of the way we’ve been writing lately,” he explained.
Every song written by the group is a collaborative effort, Ford said. “The whole band always puts in their input.”
The new album, which has thus far not been named, is still in the very early stages of production.
“We just started working with the producer,” Ford said. “We’re having a great time and we’re getting a lot done.”
Gran Torino will perform at 11 p.m. at the Casbah and doors will open at 10 p.m. Tickets are $8 for those ages 18 and above.
