The College of Charleston blasted ETSU for 12 hits but could only bring in three runs to fall to the Buccaneers 4-3 in the final game of the conference series yesterday at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
ETSU (5-16, 2-4) did most of its scoring in the first inning when Judith St. Clair took a pitch deep for a three-run homer to take the Buccaneers up 3-0.
The College of Charleston (14-19, 2-4) staged a comeback in the bottom of the first when Martha McCall doubled to centerfield to bring in Jacki Mariner and Amanda Cone.
The Cougars would take the lead in the fourth when Ashley Whetsell singled in Lindsay Wyont.
The Buccaneers answered in the fifth with the eventual game-winner when Melonie Collins singled in Jessica Hodge for the RBI.
Tiffany Vandergriff, despite giving up 12 hits, pitched a complete game and took the win, her second of the series.
Melissa Creeger gave up five hits in 4.1 innings to pick up the loss.
The Cougars travel to Greensboro, N. C., Friday, to take on UNC-Greensboro in a three-game series.
