Satan saw the body of Christ in turmoil, and catching him off guard he took his sword of words and severed each member with a different phrase.
Laughing with delight he sat in repose and enjoyed his work like Vlad the Impaler. It was a gruesome scene. An arm here and a leg there. And all removed from that sacred head.
Now all the members war as they try in vain to complete the holy union. But division abounds and Satan takes pride in his work as each member forgets its holy purpose and struggles to maintain division.
The broken body now lies in pieces. The sacred head tries to keep his control, but to no avail. Each warring member fights both against Christ and the body. God is saddened as he gazes upon his scattered Son.
He waits for the body to ask him for help. But lost in pride that plea will never come, for the members, without their head, are blind to see their crime.
Now each member has its own sword of words. They brandish their many phrases to dispel the others’ validity.
They all claim, “We are the Children of God!”
They have forgotten Christ.
They have forgotten love.
They have forgotten evangelism, brotherhood, and unity. And in their stead have born pride, arrogance, elitism and hypocrisy.
We must remember that we are all one by the shed blood of Christ and the grace of our God.
So, it is Christ that binds us to one another and it is our application of his Gospel that divides us.
We must unite under our common goal of Christ and him crucified, and the belief that this alone is sufficient for salvation from the depraved nature of our humanity.
Cease the battle of terminology and realize what those different phrases actually mean.
Whether you say that your are born again or saved, baptized or not, Baptist or Catholic, if your know that Christ is the only forgiveness for your sins and you have asked for that forgiveness then you are forgiven and that is our common bond.
