Reg Green, author of the book, The Nicholas Effect, and Juliet VanEewyk from the Washington State Department of Health will be the keynote speakers for the annual Lamb Lecture at ETSU on Thursday.
The free public program will begin at 7 p.m. in the Culp Center Auditorium.
Green is the father of Nicholas Green, the 7-year-old boy who was shot and killed in Italy by highway robbers in 1994. The decision by Reg and his wife, Maggie, to donate Nicholas’ organs led to a worldwide increase in the awareness of the organ donor shortage. Since then, donation rates in Italy have more than doubled, and thousands of people are alive as a result.
In addition to the book, the Greens have made videos, written articles and spoken at meetings across the U.S. and in Europe. A television movie, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Alan Bates, was made portraying their story.
Green and VanEenwyk’s presentation coincides with National Health Week, this Monday through Friday.
