ETSU Head Basketball Coach Ed DeChellis is no longer a candidate for the head coaching position at Duquesne University.
DeChellis met with Duquesne officials March 28 in Pittsburgh, Pa. as a finalist for the the vacancy.
A native of Monaca, Pa., DeChellis notified Duquesne athletic director Brian Collery of his decision in an early morning phone call Monday.
“The fact that Duquesne contacted me for an interview reflects very positively on what we have accomlished here at ETSU,” he said.
“However, under the guidance and support of Dr. Paul Stanton and Todd Stansbury, I am very excited about the future of Buccaneer basketball.”
The 2001 Southern Conference Coach of the Year, DeChellis has revived the ETSU basketball program in his five-year tenure. He built a program that won seven games in 1996 to a Southern Conference Champion.
