The ETSU men’s tennis team defeated Southern Conference rival College of Charleston, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at the ETSU Tennis Center.
The Buccaneers (9-10, 6-1) picked up singles wins at No. 1, 3, 5 and 6.
ETSU’s Gustavo Gomez won his 21st consecutive match, defeating Henrico DuPlessis, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
At No. 3 singles, Juan Yannuzzi won his 16th of his last 17 matches for the Buccaneers, defeating Emal Omid, 6-1, 6-4.
Roberto Fernandez defeated Bill Brehmen of College of Charleston at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-4.
At No. 6 singles, ETSU’s Francisco Diaz defeated Milos Lazic, 6-1, 6-3.
College of Charleston won singles matches at No. 2 and 4 singles.
ETSU’s Marcos Pavlovich retired in the midst of a tight three-set match at No. 2 singles against Sagi Zolkin with the score at 7-6, 2-6, 3-2.
The Cougars’ final singles victory came as Sandon Bautu defeated Pablo Sahagun at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-3.
ETSU took the doubles point after sweeping all three doubles matches.
Gomez and Fernandez defeated DuPlessis and Omid at No. 1 doubles, 8-6.
At No. 2 doubles, Pavlovich and Yannuzzi defeated Zakin and Bautu, 8-4.
In the final doubles match, Sahagun and Diaz defeated Mike Sutcliffe and Matt Beckham, 8-2.
The Bucs return to action on Wednesday, as they host SoCon rival Furman University.
