Well, I have recently been using this column as a way to vent all of the built-up frustrations related to my wedding plans and to warn some of you spouses-to-be about things as I learn them the hard way.
I love the opportunity to share and not be held accountable for what I’m saying because it doesn’t offend the readers of the East Tennessean, as I know it would my family.
However, that blissful method of releasing this anxiety was unfortunately discovered by the dear family from which it has been hidden.
Last Thursday was my grandfather’s birthday, so as we all gathered around eating and celebrating, one culprit, who will remained anonymous, decided that it was a good time to make a joke about the ongoing wedding column I had in the school newspaper.
I held my breath as I awaited the inevitable third degree over what I had written and where the copies were and whether the stuff was bad. It came – the flow of questions was actually quite funny.
Everyone pressed in to hear about the secret saga as I just laughed and assured them all that I had written nothing offensive about any of them . while crossing my fingers behind my back.
My father, surprisingly, seemed most interested and quickly drew certain planning memories to the attention of my mother who demanded to know if I had included this or that. I innocently smiled and said that I had only written about things such as dress shopping and invitations and things, then under my breath I muttered . and rehearsal dinners.
Well, that caught her attention. She instantly remembered the fiasco about the location and surely assumed that I had written some horrible thing about her, which of course, I had. You all know that, but she doesn’t, so I proceeded to defend myself.
I spent the next few minutes trying to convince them that all extra copies of the East Tennessean are destroyed instantly, which they did not buy. So, I am now on assignment to find all copies of articles and report them directly to my parents. Help!
OK, so although, I still maintain that everything I ever said in my articles was 100 percent true, I must elaborate on the fact that I have incredible parents who are being very generous and sacrificial to make my wedding a wonderful experience . and I’m not just saying that because they’re probably reading this article . honest.
