I was fortunate enough to have two great staffs in both fall and spring, full of talent and enthusiasm. There are literally dozens of people whom I think will not only go far in journalism, but go far in life, as well. I’m indebted to all of you.
However, I feel it appropriate to mention a few people who have gone the extra mile beyond the extra mile.
Mackenzie Blair, you and your immense talents were always there when I needed you. I’ll never forget that.
Dean Cheek, you were a blast from the past, and cool, talented and diligent blast at that.
Michael Farkas, what a trooper you are! And frightfully talented, too.
Erika King, you came in as news editor with seven issues to go and kicked butt. You’ll go far.
Martha Milner, your guidance was there for everything. Without you, I could have accomplished nothing.
Abby Morris, I have complete faith that you will lead this paper much farther than I did.
Candy Naff, this place would not get off square one without you. Thank you so much.
Josh Shearin, it seemed as though there was nothing we asked you to do that you wouldn’t or couldn’t.
Megan Stratton, your talents are so diverse, I don’t know where you’ll thrive. But you’ll thrive.
As these people could tell you, this is a unique job. I have experienced, in this single year, more love and more pain, more bliss and more pathos, than I could ever have imagined before.
Thank you to the many people who made this year the most unforgettable of my life.
