The Kingsport Downtown Rotary Club has honored Beth Shumaker, director of ETSU at Kingsport, with a $1,000 Paul Harris Fellow Recognition.
The late Paul Harris, a Chicago lawyer, along with several associates, began Rotary International in 1905. Gifts to the Rotary Foundation fund named for him facilitate projects which “improve and invigorate the lives of people around the world and enhance international friendship and understanding.”
The Kingsport Downtown Rotary Club chose to honor three-year member Shumaker “as a tribute to an individual whose life demonstrates a shared purpose with the objectives of Rotary.”
Shumaker came to ETSU 10 years ago, and she has served as director for ETSU at Kingsport for five years. She is an alumna of the university twice over, receiving both B.B.A. in management and M.B.A. degrees from ETSU. In addition, she is on the board of directors for her Rotary Club, serves as chair of the First Night 2002 promotions committee, and sings with the Kingsport Symphony Chorus. Shumaker and her husband, Bill, reside in Bristol.
