Flutist Bart Feller will give a free recital Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Mathes Hall.
Feller, whose concert is sponsored by ETSU’s Suzuki Studies Program, is principal flutist of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and, among others, the Stamford Symphony.
He is also a concert soloist who has appeared with orchestras including the Philadelphia Orchestra.
“He makes it look so effortless,” said Rebecca Lile Paluzzi, associate professor of flute and director of the Suzuki Studies Program.
Feller’s concert will include works from the Classical and Baroque periods and the 20th century.
He will be accompanied by pianist Jerilyn Paolini.
Paluzzi said Feller was invited not only because he is a talented performer but also because he is an encouraging teacher who is able to quickly bring improvement to his students’ flute playing.
“He is quite a positive, as well as effective, teacher,” she said.
He will work with younger students and college students while he is in Johnson City.
Feller has a friendly concert style and connects well with an audience, Paluzzi said, adding that his repertoire is enjoyable, easily “assimilated” and can be appreciated on first hearing by those with or without much exposure to the flute.
“We want to encourage students to attend and for families to bring their children,” she said.
Paluzzi said it is important that children are exposed to music at an early age. It helps children appreciate different kinds of music and feel comfortable in a concert hall, she said.
“There are many really fine flutists, many good flutists. But Bart is an outstanding one,” she said.
