In response to the frightening attacks of terrorism that took place on Tuesday morning, many students have been openly expressing the extreme sorrow and anger they feel.
Brooke Watson, a junior here at ETSU, felt very startled when she first heard the news from a radio alert in her car on the way to school.
“I was very surprised to hear what had happened,” she said. “I was shocked for a while, and then felt sorrow for the victims of this terrible crime.”
Watson believes the United States should take immediate action in order to protect its citizens.
She said she was in favor of declaring war, but only if it is proven that an entire country is behind the terrorism.
Watson said that is an entire country is not involved, then the people responsible should be arrested and severely punished.
The only thing she seemed to question was if everyone involved would actually ever be found.
“The U.S. should do all that we can to protect innocent bystanders in the event of military retaliation,” Watson said. “At this time, our country’s leaders do not need to make irrational decisions, only intelligent ones.”
Watson said that if we retaliate by killing innocent bystanders in other countries, then we will only be returning the horror that just took place in the United States.
