Intramural sports are starting up soon and the office of campus recreation is planning several new activities including paintball games and a ropes course challenge.
The first Annual Basler Challenge is scheduled for Oct. 19 and 20 and it will include events on the ropes course and paintball.
Wayne Basler, an enthusiast for outdoor activities, financed the construction of the ropes course. John Kroll, associate director of operations for campus recreation said that Basler put together a competition including a ropes course timed event.
There is no determination yet on when the sign-up will be for the eight to 12 equal-gender teams.
There will be an entry fee for the events. Prizes include T-shirts, gift certificates and plaques.
Each team will also need a team name.
“We hope that the games will become more part of the intramural games and extreme sports,” said Jon Walker, director of campus recreation.
Other events scheduled for the fall include intramural volleyball, and Homecoming activities.
The deadline to sign-up for volleyball is Oct. 23 at 9 a.m.
There will be several activities planned for Homecoming week, beginning with a three-mile road race scheduled for Nov. 4 at 1 p.m.
It will be similar to the road coarse race that was held on Labor Day weekend.
There will also be a 3-on-3-basketball game at 7 p.m. on Nov. 5, and a homecoming relay on Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
Everyone may sign-up for each activity in room 230 of Brooks Gym.
Campus Recreation is also planning several other outdoor activities and those may be found on their Web site at www.etsu.edu/students/intramur/index.htm.
