Aramark, which provides food service for ETSU, has been through major changes this year.
As people enter the Cave, they may notice the new changes.
The university has established a coffee shop, Java City, and has moved the Pizza Shop to the Atrium.
Java City, a chain beginning in 1985 in Sacramento, Calif., which sells hot coffee, frozen coffee, specialty beverages and various types of pastries has built a center in the Cave.
“We are pleased with the increase of volume at Java City,” said Tony Warner, assistant vice president for the university center.
Aramark changed the daily opening time of the coffee shop to meet student demand.
Don Cowles, dining services director, said within 10 days there will be computers installed to turn Java City into a “cyber caf.”
In addition to the changes in the Cave, the Atrium now provides the pizza service.
Also the Atrium is now open to serve dinner until 7 p.m.
The Burger King on campus is now fully opened. It serves hamburgers and deli-style food.
With the impact of the Burger King and the change to the Atrium, new employment was needed.
The new staff now consists of a caterer manager, Claudine Anderson, and new servers.
Warner said that the holiday and the dismissal of school due to the terrorist attack have made it difficult for Aramark to calculate the income of the new food sites.
Other small changes have also been made to the food service here at the university.
There is new china dinnerware that will be used at banquets.
Also a new concrete pad for the mobile food cart has been placed near Sherrod Library and Rogers-Stout Hall to keep students from having to stand in the mud when purchasing food and to make it easier for food service workers moving the cart each day.
