The ETSU School of Graduate Studies is going strong with 41 master’s degree programs, three doctoral programs and three certificate programs.
ETSU has invested heavily in the number and quality of the different programs offered by the school.
“We are very proud of this,” said Wesley Brown, dean of the graduate school. “We are working very hard to support all these programs.”
With around 2,100 graduate students on campus, the school is enjoying a record-setting year for enrollment also.
“This fall we have as many graduate credits than at any time in our history,” Brown said.
Every program is on it’s own course for growth.
“One of our goals is that every program here will re-examine itself every five years,” he said.
Every program that is able to receive special accreditation has it, Brown said. ETSU has also set up an electronic theses and dissertations submission system.
This enables students who used a computer to type their thesis or dissertation to be able to submit it electronically over the Internet without having to have it printed or bound.
“We are probably the best example in the nation,” said Brown, speaking of the submission system.
ETSU even received a limited national spotlight in respect to the system.
Some of the colleges in the school are also meeting another goal of the school: strengthening ties between the university and the community.
Teacher education is doing a lot of cohort activity off campus working with local educators and schools.
Two students from the environmental science and biological science programs have split a scholarship from the Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association because of work they have done to protect the health of southeastern rivers and water life.
