The Culp Center Auditorium will be rocking Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Big Fall Show, the annual entertainment concert to raise money for the ETSU Chorale.
Performing live include the popular all-male vocal group Ten Bucs Worth, the ETSU 75-voice chorale and the Chorale Bluegrass Ensemble.
The members of Ten Bucs Worth, all of whom are undergraduate students, are Clay Bailey, Lane Blevins and Zach Marshall, Bristol; Daniel Boner, Bridgeton, N.J.; Jon Foulk, Seymour; Rick Hilton and John Williams, Elizabethton; Michael Philbeck, Greeneville; and Russell Thompson and Travis Thompson, Piney Flats. Their accompanist is Robert Jeter, Elizabethton.
They rehearse four days a week throughout the year and an extra week before the beginning of school in order to prepare for their performance at Preview. Yet, the guys do not get many chances to perform on campus.
“They miss not having more opportunities to sing in front of their fellow students. Most of our performances are out of town,” said Dr. Thomas Jenrette Jr., professor and coordinator of Ten Bucs Worth. “I’m not sure why that is.
“Sadly, many students may not know anything about Ten Bucs Worth.”
Members of the group are looking forward to the Big Fall Show.
“We have different music this year, more popular music,” Jon Foulk said. “It’s a great opportunity to perform in front of our peers.”
Daniel Boner added, “I think there’s a lot of talent, not just from us but from the chorale. It fits many tastes.”
Nervousness is something that the group deals with, but it’s not that bad for them, said member John Williams.
“You’re nervous until you get out there, but after that it’s not so bad,” he said.
In addition to music by Ten Bucs Worth, the ETSU Chorale will perform several patriotic numbers in memory of the victims of the Sept. 11 tragedy and several hits from the world of opera, with songs by Dr. Maryann Kyle and Dr. Oliver Lo, among others.
Further, the ETSU Chorale Bluegrass Ensemble will perform such popular numbers as “Queen Anne’s Lace” and “Gentle on my Mind.”
