Seven cars from ETSU’s parking Lot 15A were broken into early Wednesday morning.
Between 1:40-2:20 a.m., thieves shattered the windows of the vehicles, which were parked in the lot that runs behind Stone Hall and the Culp Center, and took CDs and stereos.
Wednesday afternoon, remnants of the crime can still be seen in the parking lot where broken glass is spread over several parking spaces.
Rachel Brandon and Mary Wood spent the afternoon cleaning up broken glass from the window of Brandon’s car, which was broken into.
She received a call at around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning from public saftey informing her of what had happened. Later, she discovered that her CD player had been stolen.
“One victim had somewhere between 300 and 400 CDs taken,” said Public Safety Officer Mike Orr.
Orr advises students to keep valuables out of sight or locked in trunks to deter additional crimes.
“We think they (thieves) walk around the lots during the day and look for valuables, and come back at night to hit the cars,” Orr said. “It’s best if students not leave anything of value in their cars if they don’t have to.”
Cellular phones and text books should not be left in parked vehicles. Students should also remove detachable face plates from stereos.
Public Safety encourages anyone who has information about these burglaries to contact them immediately at 439-6900.
