Pressure was certainly high enough on Monday night at the Memorial Center, as UNC Greensboro defeated the Lady Bucs, 77-50 in the final.
With a hesitant offense throughout the game, the Lady Bucs managed 19 points to UNC’s 31 at halftime.
UNC Greensboro’s Jacinda Lambert scored 18 points in the game, Sandi Reid and Brianne Dodgen trailed her slightly with 11 and 10, respectively. Gaining nine rebounds and four assists, senior center Reid helped keep the team in the lead.
The Lady Bucs’ defense was admirable, but UNC’s offense and defense proved to be a lethal combination.
UNC-G forced the Lady Bucs into 26 turnovers.
Senior guard Samika Foster has averaged 10.4 points per game and was fourth in the SoCon’s steals, 2.08 spg. Sophomore forward Jacinda Lambert holds a field goal percentage of 49.2 and has averaged 11.2 points per game.
“I am going to keep working hard and we are going to get back on track”, said Lady Bucs’ head coach Karen Kemp. “I have to go out and find people who are willing to give it their all.”
Senior forward Megan Jackson and guard Erin Thurman have definitely been giving their all while playing for ETSU these past four year. Both players are dedicated, determined and successful in leading the Lady Bucs to victories.
Jackson, a physical education major from Paris, Tenn. has scored 391 points, grabbed 256 rebounds, committed 149 turnovers and dished out 95 assists in her career.
She scored 19 points against Western Carolina and Furman in 2001, grabbed 10 rebounds in the Western Carolina game and compiled four assists against Georgia Southern.
She was one of five players to play in all 28 games during the 2000-01 season and started all but one.
In a game against Louisville on Dec. 11, 1999 she scored 11 points on 5-8 shooting with seven rebounds, as well. During her debut game in 1998 against Louisville, Megan scored a total of eight points in only 19 minutes.
Erin Thurman, from Hixson, Tenn., has been one of the best long-range shooters in the 2000-01 season. Averaging 11 points per game with 2.4 three-pointers per game, she has started 24 of 27 games and scored 27 points against Appalachian State (101-78).
Erin has received SoCon Player-of-the-Week for hitting 10-13 shots, 6-9 of them behind the arc.
Thurman, a mass communications major, has scored a total of 519 points, 113 rebounds, 134 turnovers and 121 assists.
Her career-highs include the 27 points against Appalachian, seven rebounds against Western Carolina and five assists vs. UNC Greensboro in 2001.
The Lady Bucs are 7-9, 2-5 in the Southern Conference and their next game is at Furman on Jan. 19 at 3 p.m.
