Though winter weather is still in the air, students can soon take a well-deserved study break and get away from the daily grind at this year’s Winter Cruise.
The event will be centered around the theme “New York, New York!”
According to Michelle Goodwin of University Productions and Winter Cruise coordinator, last year’s theme was ‘Welcome to the Jungle.’
“With ‘New York,’ organizations have many more ideas they can work with, like taxis or Broadway,” Goodwin said.
Various student organizations will be represented. Past booths designed by groups offered face painting, basketball shoot, go fish, fund-raisers and giveaways. “This is a good way for students to get involved and learn more about campus organizations,” she said.
In addition to getting their name out, Winter Cruise also offers clubs an opportunity to recruit new members.
Goodwin said that 40 to 50 organizations are usually present at this event.
“There’s always a good turnout,” she said.
Winter Cruise will take place Feb. 6 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on all three levels of the Culp Center.
“We’re expecting a really big turnout this year, with more organizations participating,” she said. “Aramark also gives away free food in the ballroom.”
This year’s cruise will also offer a night event, which will begin at 7 p.m. in the Culp ballroom.
The event will focus on a free showing of the movie An Affair to Remember.
Winter Cruise is sponsored by University Productions in cooperation with other offices, departments and student organizations on campus.
